Thanksgiving Recipes
Just curious, how many of you cook or know how to cook a traditional Thanksgiving dinner? I ask because I never cook… but when Savannah was born in April of 1997, I decided I absolutely HAD to learn to cook at least the holiday classics, especially Thanksgiving which was one of my favorites as a child. I was especially concerned because my mom (who hates cooking but is a great cook) along with her sister Charmaine Kline Arnauld had it ALL in their heads! Nothing on paper to pass down!
So that year, I took their “a little celery, and some onions” and measured and documented every single thing that we did. I wrote it all up and have added, edited and tweaked it over the last 20 years, cooking it pretty much by myself almost every year since. It’s become a rite of passage or a badge of honor I suppose. It’s the one time of the year when I give myself permission to forget work and the stresses we all face and focus on one special act of caring for my family. One year when I was really swamped with our store (getting ready for Black Friday!), I proposed going to a beautiful restaurant for a spectacular buffet… until I saw little Sealy Sikes start crying. That’s when I realized the meaning of this simple, but powerful ritual.
