Even though we were just a small group of seven, we knew we wanted to cap the happiest day ever with a beautiful, memorable meal in just the right setting. We didn’t want to be in a large space shared with strangers. But reserving a big room for just seven would have felt empty. So in my research I came across an incredible 250 year old restaurant called Laperouse Paris. It offers small “salons” that were just perfect for our little family. We chose the Victor Hugo Salon. The decadent weight of the sterling silver flatware, the cozy rich tones of the room, the gilt trim, every feature was just so very perfect. The mirror in the salon has names hand etched into the glass. Legend is that prominent men would bring their mistresses here, and the women would test the jewelry they had been given to see if the diamonds were real by seeing if they could cut glass!
I tried to pay a deposit for the salon but was amazed when the managers assured me everything would be fine and that they were confident we would take car of everything when we arrived. Being a typical American, I would have felt better having a receipt or something in hand to show we had reserved the room. Well, other than the copies of emails in my color-coded binder I brought! But everything went perfectly and the cake we had ordered from a local baker arrived right on cue and made the perfect end to a perfect day!
